Increased Need for Mental Health Treatment – Help is Here

There has been an increase in demand for urgent psychiatric services at CCHMC in the last few weeks. Please keep the following options in mind when needing help for pediatric and adolescent patients:

o Pediatricians may directly contact the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on-call any time using the CCHMC Priority Link access line.

o Non-Urgent clinical questions that can wait 2-3 business days for a psychiatrist’s curbside advice, providers can send an electronic message to Psychiatry. (Providers with a non-Epic EHR can use Epic Link while providers with an Epic EHR can use Epic for electronic messaging).

o Assistance with acute triage and rapid safety evaluations for pediatric and adolescent patients can be accessed via the Cincinnati Children’s Psychiatric Intake and Response Center (PIRC) by calling 513-636-4124.

o PIRC may schedule a rapid safety evaluation in the Bridge Clinic. PIRC Bridge appointments allow for an alternative option to the emergency room and provide multi-disciplinary care, and direct connection for the family to the appropriate level of care, even if inpatient hospitalization is not needed.

o PIRC is the initial resource for ALL psychiatric services and provides connections to high quality mental health treatment across the spectrum of care. Pediatric Providers can contact PIRC at 513-636-4124 at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
