Penicillin Allergy Testing Service (PATS) at Cincinnati Children’s Main Campus

The Penicillin Allergy Testing Services (PATS) at Cincinnati Children’s is a safe, one-time, in-clinic, oral challenge. Testing is offered five-days-a week with most appointments available in the afternoon at the Burnet Campus.

Why test?

Recent studies have shown that 95% of children who were thought to be allergic will not have a reaction when tested, making it safe to re-expose children to amoxicillin. The best way to decide whether a reaction was an allergic one is to have allergy testing for the suspected medicine. De-labeling unnecessary penicillin allergies will lead to:

o better health outcomes for kids,

o less bacterial resistance in the community

o dollars saved for families and healthcare
