Acute Flaccid Myeltis (AFM) - Tools for diagnosis
In 2014 acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) emerged, with children throughout the world presenting with acute onset paralysis. According to Marissa Vawter-Lee, MD Neurohospitalist, Division of Neurology, most patients had a viral illness and fever in the preceding 3-7 days. AFM has continued to occur but has a clear peak in the fall season of even years. This infographic is designed help primary care providers to recognize potential cases and refer them to Cincinnati Children’s for evaluation. A multidisciplinary Pediatric Grand Rounds on AFM will be presented on August 25, 2020.
