Referrals to Endocrinology – Referral Process Updates
The Division of of Endocrinology has provided an update on referrals for specific diagnoses so urgent situations triaged correctly.
Please call Priority Link if:
If you have concerning TSH elevation or 17OHP on the newborn screen - ask for advice or ask to make an urgent referral. DO NOT just send in a referral.
New onset diabetes patients to find an urgent clinic spot or admission as needed.
For these situations, NEVER send the referral in without the call as it may not be triaged in a timely manner. We are booking several weeks out for new visits and we have had patients missed that got very sick when a referral was placed without the phone call.
When sending routine referrals, we ask that you please include the concerning lab value with the reason for referral. This would help us make sure the patient gets to the correct clinic in an appropriate timeframe.
We appreciate you all and are always here to help. If any questions about the referral process or for general educational needs, please reach out to Nancy Crimmins, MD at nancy.crimmins@cchmc.org or sarah.corathers@cchmc.org.
