Letter from Shelly Voet, MD - Executive Community Physician Leader
February 21, 2023
Hello to my fellow pediatric providers. Thanks for reading Synapse. This issue has clinical updates, information on new services, as well as articles that celebrate the impact that some of our CCHMC faculty have made in our field. Congrats to Drs. Unaka, Kotagal, and Garcia!
Month in review – February continued to be a very busy month at CCHMC, including continued high mental health volumes in the ED and Inpatient Psychiatry. There has been strong collaboration across service lines (Emergency Services, Psychiatry and Inpatient/Acute Care) during this time. These teams at CCHMC always appreciate the work we are doing in our practices to provide mental health care for our patients. They also appreciate it when we contact PIRC first for patients who need an escalation in care to help determine the most appropriate way to serve each patient.
For awareness, this month Glenwood Behavioral Health in Cincinnati opened a new adolescent inpatient program for patients 13-17 years old to complement their adult inpatient programs. The CCHMC team has been in communication with their team as a community partner. For more information about their services, visit www.glenwoodbehavioral.com.
CPAC – Community Survey – CPAC, along with Therese Martin and the Physician Outreach group, are continuing to discuss and propose potential improvements in the CCHMC/Community interface based on your feedback. One item we are working on currently is sharing a summary of third next available appointments by division. This was based directly on a suggestion in the survey. Additionally, in an effort to increase collaboration, each regional physician leader in CPAC will now be aligned with a leadership team at each site of care at CCHMC (such as Ambulatory, Peri-op, Mental Health, Critical Care). We are looking forward to strengthening our partnership in care through this.
Infection Prevention and Control - Ohio Measles Outbreak – The IP&C team at CCHMC shared with us that the central Ohio Measles outbreak is hopefully coming to an end with the last new case reported in December. Thankfully, here in the Cincinnati region, we did not see spread of this outbreak. Thanks for all the diligent efforts to keep your patients up to date with all vaccinations.
Ohio AAP reminder – The Ohio AAP application for free bike helmets through the “Put a Lid On It” campaign is open now through MARCH 3 at https://ohioaap.org/putalidonit .
CCHMC Residency Alumni - CCHMC residency alumni should have received a Save the Date for the 2023 Alumni Weekend March 31 and April 1. The weekend will include a CPS sponsored adolescent health CME event and dinner on Friday and a tour of the new G building on Saturday. Hope to see fellow alumni there! Those who have not received their invitation can reach out to Mandy Koehler at Amanda.Koehler@cchmc.org or register here: https://alumni.cincinnatichildrens.org/2023/alumni-weekend.
Finally, a big THANK YOU to Therese Martin who celebrates 30 years of service to CCHMC on March 1.
Thanks for all you do for our kids,
Shelly F. Voet MD
