Critical Care Building Update - New PICU Will Improve Efficiency and Enhance Patient and Family Experience; Provider open house September 24 -
When the new Critical Care Building PICU opens on November 6, it will increase the number of beds from 35 to 48 and have larger rooms, improved equipment and additional space on the unit for families to take care of their basic needs.
Inpatient rooms will be 50 percent larger than before, and feature suction and oxygen attachments above beds. Equipment will include procedure lights and the ability to rotate 360 degrees, which means less patient movement or body positioning during care, allowing for a safer care experience. Inpatient rooms also will have pass-throughs which will allow staff to remove trash and stock supplies while minimizing disturbances for families.
The PICU will also feature many enhancements that allow families to take care of daily tasks and designated areas for their mental and emotional needs. Improvements include:
Lounges in each wing with a larger dining area in the main lobby
Business center
Laundry room
Additional consult rooms
Outdoor green spaces
Embedded OT/PT gym
Embedded Child life
Providers can see these features and more at a special open house to be held on September 24. Save the date and watch for your invitation.
