Access and Referral Updates
Dentistry
In an effort to provide the best care possible to existing patients, the Division of Dentistry will no longer provide a general "Walk In" clinic, effective 7/1/23. Moving forward, the clinic will focus on providing care for dental emergencies (e.g. dental trauma, facial swelling related to dental issues, uncontrolled bleeding). Before referring for care, PCPs are encouraged to use PPL in urgent situations for patients without a dentist (or when their private dentist cannot be reached). Read more about this service here.
Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DDBP)
Over the last year, the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics has seen a significant increase in referrals across all ages. We receive 1,000-1,100 referrals per month for patients in our eight-county local area. In spite of our hiring additional physician and nurse practitioners, our wait times for new visits have increased, particularly for patients aged 6-12 years old. As a system, we have sought to prioritize our youngest patients (5 years old and under), allocating more new visits for younger versus older children. Our goal is to identify developmental disability at younger ages. For patients 6-12 years old, we continue to accept new referrals but our wait times for new visits in this age range will be longer, currently around 7+ months. You can find read the full details here.
Emergency Medicine
Referrals to the Cincinnati Children’s ED can now be placed electronically through Epic Link by providers or their staff. The goal is to improve efficiency and accuracy in the information exchange during referrals. A job aid has been developed to walk you and your staff through the process
Urology
The Division of Urology has developed a comprehensive list of prerequisite testing needed for new visits. You can find the list here.
Anesthesia
