Critical Care Building Update - New NICU will improve outcomes and experience; Provider open house September 24 -

When our Critical Care Building opens November 6, it will include a state-of-the-art 80-bed NICU that enhances comfort and safety for patients and families, enables staff to more efficiently deliver care, and improves outcomes through innovation. Here’s a closer look at some of the key features:

Spacious inpatient rooms provide more personal space for families and room for staff to work. Alcoves built into hallways enable nurses to observe at least two inpatient rooms while still maintaining privacy for families.

Pass-throughs enable staff to stock critical items and empty trash without entering the room—delivering efficiencies for staff, privacy for patients and families, and fewer interruptions for medical personnel providing care.

Spectral lighting—an LED lighting system that mimics wavelengths in natural outdoor settings--is installed in patient rooms following a discovery at Cincinnati Children’s that our bodies detect wavelength colors that can impact development. This first-of-its-kind application of spectral lighting will improve patient outcomes.

Providers can see these features and more at a special open house to be held on September 24. Save the date and watch for your invitation.
