Action on HB 454 - A Message from our Leadership

Fellow medical providers,

As some of you may know, the Ohio House of Representatives has introduced HB454 hb454_00_IN (state.oh.us)This bill would greatly impact the care that Ohio Children’s Hospitals deliver in Adolescent Medicine and Endocrinology divisions for patients diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

All member institutions of the Ohio Children’s Hospital Association strictly follow the Pediatric Endocrinological Society’s evidence-based protocols.  As the attached template testimony highlights, HB454 fundamentally interferes with the medical provider/patient relationship and overrides parent/caregiver authority to evaluate and direct the best care for their children.

If you would like to VOLUNTARILY submit written testimony, the attached template is provided to assist you with individualizing your testimony. You can edit the template to better reflect your clinical role.  While you can identify yourself as a medical provider, please use your home address both at the top of your testimony and on the attached witness form.

Should you choose to participate, please submit the following to familiesaging&humanservicescommittee@ohiohouse.gov by 9:00 AM on May 31, 2022.

  • Written testimony AND

  • Completed witness form (This form can be confusing - Leave phone number blank, check the opponent box and write "Written testimony only" on the form.  No written testimony will be accepted without this form.)

All submitted testimony is a matter of public record so PROPONENTS of HB454 will have access to both your witness form and your testimony.

Thank you, in advance, for your advocacy on behalf of all the patients treated at Cincinnati Children’s.
