The New Emergency Department Provides Increased Space, Care and Convenience

Cincinnati Children’s new Emergency Department (ED) will have more space to care for patients, convenient access to essential medical services and upgraded state-of-the-art mental health treatment rooms. The ED will be 90,000 square feet, three times the size of the current location. We’ve also increased our number of treatment rooms from 51 to 60, further expanding our ability to care for our local families. The new facility will also feature embedded imaging services so families can receive x-rays, CT scans or ultrasounds without the need to travel to a separate building, and convenient access to fill medications at the onsite 24-hour emergency pharmacy. An updated map of the Burnet Campus, highlighting the new ED entrance location and parking can be found HERE

Patients who present with developmental, behavioral or mental health concerns will receive care in one of the 12 new treatment rooms. These new spaces were specially designed to improve safety, efficiency of care and meet the specific needs of these patients.

The ED will also feature:

  • A decontamination center.

  • Research lab.

  • 5 shock trauma suites.

  • 2 trauma elevators with direct access to the helipad.
