$10M Investment from Cincinnati Children’s Launches Ambitious Mental Health Mission - Imagine a day when a mental health expert could take a look at data about a classroom of first graders and identify who is at risk for suicidal behavior as a high schooler. Imagine a health care system that enables the people who care about those children to take action early enough to prevent such a tragedy from occurring. That’s the ultimate goal of the bold new mental health “trajectories” project, announced Nov. 8, 2021.

New Craniosynostosis and Cranial Reconstruction Center Provides Expert, Coordinated Care - Cincinnati Children’s is proud to announce the opening of our Craniosynostosis and Cranial Reconstruction Center. Our team features leading neurosurgery and plastic surgery experts who provide complete care for craniosynostosis, calvarial abnormalities and skull lesions.

Patty Manning, MD, Receives Cincinnati Pediatric Society Founder's Award - Patty Manning, MD, chief of staff and professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s, has received the Cincinnati Pediatric Society (CPS) Founder’s Award. This prestigious award recognizes a member of the medical profession who has contributed exemplary research and program development to the medical community, improving the health and welfare of our community.

Critical Care Building – Updates and Information -  The new Critical Care Building has been open for over one month and you will likely have questions about wayfinding, parking, services, etc. in the coming months.  Please bookmark the following link www.cincykidssynapse.com/ccb to get answers to these and other questions. Since the last issue of Synapse we have added a Facts and Figures document that provides a quick review of the new building, as well as the link listed above. Lastly, if you haven’t watched the Critical Care video for providers, make sure to check it out.  The faculty at Cincinnati Children’s share features of the new building that they thought you, their community PCP partners, would find most interesting.

Iron Deficiency Anemia - New Clinical Practice Support Tool Available - Iron Deficiency Anemia is common and often not recognized until it is severe. For information on iron deficiency risk factors, assessment and management, a new Clinical Practice Support Tool is available HERE. For questions about iron deficiency anemia, especially additional evaluation or apparently refractory anemia, options available include e-consults, Physician Priority Link calls or patient referrals to the Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI) outpatient Hematology clinic.

Green Township MRI to Close Temporarily - The MRI at Green Township will be closed for four months, beginning Jan. 12 in order to replace the scanner with a new scanner.  In addition to the current scan abilities, the new MRI system will allow us to perform more types of scans than we're capable of today. Patients needing an MRI can be scheduled at the Burnet, Liberty or Kenwood locations by our Scheduling Center at (513) 636-5025.

Chris Peltier, MD Honored with Pediatrician Advocate Award - The Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) recently awarded the William H. Cotton, MD, FAAP Pediatrician Advocate Award to Chris Peltier, MD, FAAP. This award honors a pediatrician who is a strong pediatric legislative advocate.

Urgent Text Notifications- Sign-up Now Available - Do you want to receive same-day URGENT TEXT notifications from Children’s? Community providers and their staff can now Opt-In to a new Urgent Message Notification System. The system allows us to communicate same-day, urgent information using SMS text messaging.
